Volunteer Zone - Enrichment Patch Projects 2010-2011
In addition to the official awards offered by Girl Scouts of the USA (Journey awards, Learning Petals, Try-Its, Badges, Interest Patches) there are unofficial enrichment patches girls may earn. Some of these are offered by Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta, and some by other youth-serving agencies.
The council patch project modules are available at no cost and require no special training to use. They can be picked up at your nearest service center, or ordered using the Printed Materials Request Form. Some can even be downloaded (see below).
IMPORTANT! An asterisk (*) before the title means that an evaluation or special order form must be used to purchase your patches.
Remember: These unofficial patches go on the back of the uniform vest, sash or tunic. Unofficial patches may also be sewn on a camp blanket, jacket or tote bag or put in a patch album.

Awards from other organizations
These awards were developed by other non-profit organizations with Girl Scouts and other youth groups in mind. Wear these unofficial earned patches on the back of the uniform sash, vest or tunic, or on a camp blanket, jacket, etc.
ZINK THE ZEBRA (D, B, J, C/S/A) - Zink the Zebra: A Special Tale, is about a zebra with spots instead of stripes. The story of Zink is used as a basis for understanding how it feels to be different. Kelly Weil, who wrote the story of Zink, was an 11-year old girl who died of cancer. While Kelly was sick, many of her friends wouldn't play with her because she looked different due to her medical treatments. "Zink" helps girls realize that we're more alike than different, and that being different doesn't mean you don't need friends. Activity kits with patch requirements are available for checkout from the Atlanta, Dalton and Griffin Girl Scout Resource Centers.
AMERICAN INDIAN YOUTH AWARD CERTIFICATE (C*/S/A) - Any Girl Scout or Boy Scout over age 12* and under age 18, American Indian or non-Indian, is eligible to work toward earning the American Indian Youth Award Certificate (not a patch.) Download requirements.
“Our Own Council” awards
Girl Scouts of the USA allows Girl Scout councils to create Try-Its, badges and interest projects on topics unique to that council. These are official awards and may be worn on the front of the uniform sash or vest. For additional information, visit Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta's “Our Own Council” awards.
QUESTION: May our troop or group create an Our Own Council's award?
ANSWER: No. Girl Scout Juniors may create their Own Troop's badge and Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors may create their own interest project award, but Girl Scouts of the USA allows only councils to develop Our Own Council awards. However, your troop or group may suggest a topic and volunteer to be part of the award committee. |
