Required for leaders and assistant leaders

1) Submit a Volunteer Application to complete the background screening.

2) View the Online Volunteer Orientation in English or Spanish; Password: discover (English) or descubrir (Spanish). (To receive the orientation on a CD, contact Katie Bower.)

3) Go to Learning Opportunities on the Web to register for the following classes:

- New Leader Training (3 hours in class, online, or home study)
- New Leader Training (Spanish) (3 hours: class/online/home study)

Troop Camper

To participate in camping activities, troops need a trained troop camper who has taken at least the first three classes of the following:

1) Trips and Overnights explains how to plan trips with girls, using girl-led activities and progression. Discusses safety guidelines, training required for certain trips and activities, and which forms to complete for trip approval.
2) Outdoors and S'mores prepares adults to take girls on an overnight in a cabin, experience the outdoors and build a campfire. (Prerequisite: Trips and Overnights)
3) Platform Tent Camping with Fire Building and Outdoor Cooking (overnight) prepares adults to take the girls on an overnight in a platform tent and cook on a campfire. (Prerequisite: Outdoors and S'mores)
4) Fire Building and Outdoor Cooking is available for those who do not intend to use a platform tent to camp but still wish to learn to cook on a campfire.
5) Advanced Tent Camping prepares adults to lead girls in an advanced outdoor experience and pitch their own tents. (Prerequisite: Platform Tent Camping with Fire Building and Outdoor Cooking)

First Aider

To leave the meeting place or engage in physically demanding activities, troops need a trained first aider who has taken the following:

Red Cross Standard First Aid and Adult and Child CPR
OR
American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid and CPR
OR
any of the firs taid/CPR classes listed in page 37 in Safety-Wise

Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta offers Red Cross and American Heart Association classes for a reduced fee through Learning Opportunities on the Web.

Adult learning is provided by volunteers to volunteers. You can be assured that you are learning from the best that have been in your shoes before. The knowledge, helpful skills and "how-to's" shared with volunteers always puts them at ease. Have you been a leader for years? Are you familiar with the Girl Scout program and seeking an opportunity to share your knowledge? Do you want to improve your public speaking skills, meet new people and acquire additional leadership skills? Then become a member of the training team.
